For the DW5600CA-8, Casio uses a four-tone mix of off-white, charcoal gray, and medium gray to build an Arctic camouflage pattern on the broad inner bezel. Both DW5600-based models, along with the rest of the series, instead use color-swapped variants of the rounded, irregular “Woodland” camouflage pattern instead of the more modern, pixelated look of contemporary digital camouflage as used by militaries around the world. Ironically, none of the watches in the Casio G-Shock Digital Camouflage Utility Series actually feature digital camouflage. Both models boast the G-Shock line’s standard 200 meters of water resistance, however. By contrast, the DW5600CA-2’s slate blue case and matching accordion-style resin strap both form an effective base for the naval camouflage theme, and give this familiar design a reserved and masculine colorway in photos. The DW5600CA-8 coats this familiar form and its matching strap in a warm, pale putty gray hue as a base color for its Arctic camouflage motifs, but this muted color comes off almost grimy in initial images. Where these two models begin to diverge, however, is with color. Measuring in at 42.8mm, these matte resin cases maintain the original G-Shock’s dimpled hooded lugs, ridged case sides, and octagonal bezels. The first two models in the Casio G-Shock Digital Camouflage Utility Series build on the original square DW5600 form that launched the G-Shock line back in 1983. The new Casio G-Shock Digital Camouflage Utility Series, including the Casio G-Shock DW5600CA-8, the Casio G-Shock DW5600CA-2, the Casio G-Shock GA700CA-2A, the Casio G-Shock GA700CA-5A, and the Casio G-Shock GA2100CA-8A, gives some of the most enduring G-Shock designs a street style-inspired edge while maintaining the affordability and durability that made the line famous. Spanning three of the G-Shock line’s most popular silhouettes, these new colorways add a mission-ready punch to the famously tough series.

Casio’s rugged G-Shock line is no stranger to camo, with previous releases including 2019’s laser-etched camouflage titanium designs, but for 2022, the brand brings the streetwear style of camouflage to the more affordable end of the G-Shock spectrum. Beyond their use on the battlefield, camouflage patterns have been fashion staples for decades.
